Welcome to the San Diego Math Tutor Online Classrooms
Please be kind and corteous in your comments to other users in the chat classrooms and lobby. Thank you.
How it Works
This is the San Diego Math Tutor's chat room utility for online tutoring.
The main chat room is called the Chat Lobby.
Inside the chat lobby, there will be a number of chat classrooms, depending on how many students are currently enrolled in online tutoring.
Each classroom is for the exclusive use of the student or group of students taking a particular online tutoring session or series of sessions.
When you enroll in online tutoring with the San Diego Math Tutor, a chat classroom is created especially for you, and you receive two passwords, one for the chat lobby, and another one for your particular classroom.
You will have to login to the chat lobby first, and then into your classroom.
Each classroom has a different password, and this password is given via e-mail or phone call, only to the student for whom the classroom was created.
On the other hand, all students currently enrolled in online tutoring have the password to the chat lobby.
This password is changed about once a month, and the currently enrolled students receive a notification with the new password for the chat lobby.
There are times when the chat lobby password feature is disabled. Any visitor to this page will be able to login to the chat lobby during those times, without a password. This happens only once or twice a day for brief periods of time when I am personally monitoring the chat lobby. I use these times as an opportunity to answer in real time questions from visitors about my tutoring service.
However, whether you are a student or a visitor, I request that you please exercise good common web sense whenever you are chatting with other users in the chat lobby or any of the classrooms.
Please keep a respectful attitude and keep your comments truthful, polite and helpful for other users.
Please do not disclose any personal information –e-mail, phone, address, passwords, credit cards, or the like- in any chat session.
If you are a minor, please keep your parents informed about the web sites you visit, and please request their permission before entering any chat room.
If you are a parent, I welcome your comments and suggestions (email me) on creating a safer online experience for your children.
Software requirements
This chat utility is implemented as a Java® applet.
To be able to use the chat classrooms, you need to have Java enabled in your computer.
To download Java free of charge, click here www.java.com and follow the Free Java Download link.
Floating Chat Classroom
One of the buttons inside the chat utility enables the chat room to float as a separate window independent from the browser.
When you use this feature, please do not navigate from this web page or close the chat window while the chat classroom is floating.
Click on the icon you will see then at the upper center of this page to dock the chat window back into this page.
This feature is convenient to keep the chat visible while you open other browser windows or tabs or other applications.
Help
There is a Help button in the chat classroom task bar.
The Help button links to an extensive menu of help topics related to the operation of the chat utility.
